April 10th – Seed’s Needs

In this first class we dissect a bean seed and discover what is inside. Kids learn about seed germination and create their own sprout bags to take home, where they can watch the germination process in action!

April 17th – Garden Tools and Safety

Now it’s time to “dig in” and get a little dirty. In this class we practice the proper use and safe storage of common gardening tools. Each child gets a set of gardening gloves and hand tools and creates a personalized tote bag to hold their supplies.

April 24th – Raising Seedlings

Don’t forget your garden tote; you’ll need it for this class! Kids learn when, where, and how to plant seeds and how to care for new seedlings. Then they choose several vegetable and/or flower seeds to plant and take home. You’ll need to hunt down a warm, sunny place indoors where you can see them sprout.

May 1st – Plant Parts

From roots and stems to leaves and flowers… we could learn about plant parts for hours. In this class we cover the basics as we engage in some fun experiments to discover how plants drink water and how leaves use sunlight.

May 8th – Bugs in the Garden: Pests and Partners

In this class we hunt through the garden to uncover how bugs can help or hinder our gardens. Kids then create their own rock bugs to decorate their gardens.

May 15th – Tending Your Garden

Starting seeds is just the beginning. Now we learn what it takes to establish a successful garden – watching, weeding, watering, and more! Kids can measure rainfall in their own gardens throughout the season with their homemade rain gauge.
